IndiGo Flight Power Bank Fire: Smoke Scare Prompts Emergency Evacuation in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: An unexpected incident on a IndiGo flight caused panic among passengers on Tuesday at Chandigarh airport. The aircraft had just landed from Hyderabad and was standing on the runway when a passenger’s power bank suddenly caught fire. Within moments, smoke began spreading inside the cabin, creating fear and confusion among those on board. Situations like this can feel overwhelming, especially in a closed space like an airplane.

The airline crew acted quickly and followed safety procedures. Passengers were evacuated using the emergency exit, and everyone was safely moved to the terminal. No injuries were reported, which is a big relief. A video of passengers exiting onto the runway has been widely shared on social media, showing the urgency of the situation.

According to the airline, passenger safety was the top priority. The aircraft will undergo a full inspection before it is allowed to fly again. While such incidents are rare, they highlight the risks linked to lithium-ion batteries used in power banks and electronic devices.

As per guidelines by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, power banks are allowed only in carry-on baggage. They should not be placed in overhead compartments because it becomes harder to manage a fire in that area. Passengers can use power banks to charge devices during flights, but they should always keep them within reach and monitor them.

This incident is a reminder to handle electronic items carefully while traveling. If a device heats up, smells unusual, or shows signs of damage, it’s best to inform the crew immediately. Quick action can prevent a small issue from becoming a serious emergency.
